This exhibition continues to explore a dystopic world
paralleling our own. The characters inhabiting it are assemblages made
from disparate components and byproducts, resulting in a balancing act
between whimsy and warning. Layers of tattoo, dermis, graffiti and
detritus combine to complicate these portraits and ask the viewer to
consider what is the character’s true self. RUOK, or “Are you ok?”, is
one of numerous text short-hands tattooed throughout this series of
works. In the context of this show, this phrase maneuvers away from a
question of concern, to an assumption of downfall. |
