Artist Statement:
I am a collector. I stockpile images from my environment. I
begin by spending time in a given area, photographing and making thumb
nail sketches. A laundry list develops: the route to the post office,
gum, litter, shorelines, a document of place and time. I examine some
parts very closely and visually dissect sections of the land, a fly, a
petal. The result of my experience is a series of small panel
paintings in acrylic and gouache. Many layers of color are built up
and worked into directly with sandpaper and wood cutting tools. The
final images have the atmosphere of partially told stories. They hint
at the ineffable qualities of relationships. |
